Plans are underway to trial a new rapid bus service between Rolleston and Christchurch city, and Environment Canterbury is asking for input from residents on stop locations and timing.
Following feedback from the community over the last 18 months, Environment Canterbury will trial a new rapid bus service between Rolleston and Christchurch city, starting early in 2018.
Environment Canterbury manager of public transport strategy, planning and marketing Edward Wright said, “This is a new style of service, different to any kind of express service we have done before. There has been demand from the Rolleston community for faster transport to the city, and we are now in a position where we are able to trial something new that we hope will meet the community’s demand.”
The new service will be designed to complement the existing Yellow Line service, rather than duplicate it. It will take the fastest route available on the day, avoiding congestion.
“Rolleston has seen enormous growth in recent years, and the demand for this kind of service is there. If successful, it is likely the rapid service concept could be trialled in other locations, such as Rangiora and Lincoln”, said Wright.
Rolleston Rapid service overview:
The service will consist of three trips in the morning from Rolleston to the city, and three trips in the afternoon from the city to Rolleston.
- Between Rolleston and the city, the bus will take the quickest route available on the day, at the driver’s discretion.
- To ensure a fast journey with minimal delays, the number of pick-up and drop-off points will be limited to 3-4 locations at each end.
- To help us plan the best possible service for Rolleston passengers, we would appreciate you having your say on what the route and timetable should look like, by completing this short survey .
