Travel Cheaper

With the Metrocard you pay $1.65 adult per trip instead of the $2.50 cash adult fare within Timaru.

Use your Metrocard and you'll only be charged $3.30 per day even if you make 3 or more trips!  Here's what travel with the Metrocard costs around Timaru:

  • For a single fare, you receive two hours unlimited travel.
  • For the daily maximum, you receive unlimited travel for one day.
  • For the weekly maximum, you will receive one calendar week unlimited travel (Monday to Sunday).
  • When the weekly maximum is used Monday – Friday you receive weekend travel free within the same zone.

 

Please note those travelling to or from Temuka or Washdyke cannot use a Metrocard to pay for their fares, only cash fares are accepted on those services.

How do I get a Metrocard?

It's easy, just follow these steps:

  • Get your Metrocard and top it up at the Te Ana Ngai Tahu Rock Art Centre, 2 George St, Timaru
  • Activate your online account so you can top up easily

Discounts for children under 18 years

Here's what travel with the Metrocard  costs if you're under-18:

Children will also be required to produce a photo ID when getting a card and on the bus showing their date of birth and proving that they are under 18. Approved IDs include CANDO cards, passports, drivers license or a school card that states your name and date of birth.

Free travel for under-5s

Children under-5 years-of-age, accompanied by a fare-paying passenger, can travel free-of-charge.​​​​​​​
