Metro – Ride to Win Competition 2021/22

Competition Period and Eligibility

  1. These terms (Terms) govern the competition being run by Canterbury Regional Council, a local authority constituted under the Local Government Act 2002 (Environment Canterbury), with address 200 Tuam Street, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand, where random winners will win a month’s free travel on Metro buses (Competition).
  2. The Competition commences on 1 November 2021 and ends on 28 February 2022 with respective winners drawn monthly, as set out in these Terms. Environment Canterbury reserves the right to shorten or extend the Competition in its sole discretion.
  3. The Competition runs from 12.01am at the start of each month and ends on 11.59pm on the last day of each month.
  4. The Competition is open to all Metrocard holders on the Christchurch, Selwyn and Waimakariri districts (Greater Christchurch Network).
  5. To be eligible to win the Competition, each Metrocard holder must have their contact details up to date on their online account at metro.co.nz. If a Metrocard holder does not have an online account, they are still eligible to win the Competition, provided they registered with their contact details when they first received their Metrocard (and the information is still current). Metrocard holders may update their details by calling Environment Canterbury 03 366 8855.
  6. All users of the Metro bus system automatically go in the draw to win (subject to these Terms), by paying with their registered Metrocard, including where a fare is not charged to the Metrocard. This includes trips where no fare is charged from the Metrocard.

Notification and Prizes

  1. Environment Canterbury will randomly draw 29 winners, who will each win a month’s worth of free travel on the Greater Christchurch Network. The draws will be made promptly following the end of each month.
  2. One winner will be drawn for each of the 29 bus and ferry routes (Winner(s)), listed here: https://www.metroinfo.co.nz/assets/Maps/chch-network-map.pdf.
  3. Winners will be notified by email, text message or telephone call, using details registered online and associated with the relevant Metrocard.
  4. If a Winner(s) fails to make contact with Environment Canterbury within three days of notification to accept the prize, Environment Canterbury reserves the right to randomly re-draw a new Winner(s) (as the case may be) for that route for that month.
  5. In accepting the prize, Winners automatically agree to comply with these Terms. If any Winner does not agree to comply with these Terms, that Winner is automatically ineligible and Environment Canterbury will be entitled to randomly re-draw a new Winner.
  6. Each Winner will receive a Metrocard credit to the value of a month’s free travel on the Greater Christchurch Network Metro service. The value of each Winner’s credit will be equivalent to the maximum fare that Winner would pay in a month (taking into account daily and/or weekly fare caps (as the case may be) and calculated based on the zone (being 1, 2 or 3) of travel.

Conditions

  1. All Greater Christchurch Network trips with registered Metrocards, go in the draw.
  2. For the avoidance of doubt, travel on school services, or in areas outside of the Greater Christchurch areas are not included.
  3. A Winner will only be able to win a prize once during the Competition or in any rolling 12 month period, in the event of the Competition being extended (as applicable).
  4. Metrocard prize credit remains valid until the earlier of the date it is utilised for bus travel in lieu of payment or the date that is three years from the date loaded onto the Metrocard.
  5. No employees of Environment Canterbury, their family members or third parties directly associated with the Competition are eligible to be drawn as Winners.
  6. All Winners agree to the use of their name and image in any publicity or promotional material (without compensation) on Environment Canterbury’s website and in any other media or form that Environment Canterbury considers appropriate. Environment Canterbury will seek the express consent of the Winner prior to the use of a Winner’s name and image.
  7. Any participant, who in the opinion of Environment Canterbury, interferes with the entry or draw mechanism in any way, engages in any unlawful or improper conduct which jeopardises or is likely to jeopardise the fair or proper conduct of the Competition, or who does not properly, comply with the entry process, will be ineligible to win and will be excluded from the Competition.
  8. Entry by participants in this Competition does not invalidate or supersede Metro’s general terms of use and these terms still apply.

General

  1. Environment Canterbury may (at its sole discretion) amend or update these Terms, change or substitute the prizes, and/or change, suspend or terminate the Competition at any time with or without notice (with changes take effect when updated on Environment Canterbury’s website).
  2. Environment Canterbury will not be liable for any failure or delay in complying with any obligation imposed on it under these Terms if the failure or delay arises directly or indirectly from a cause or event reasonably beyond Environment Canterbury’s control including matters arising or resulting from the effects of Covid-19.
  3. All decisions made by Environment Canterbury in relation to the Competition will be final and binding on all participants, and Environment Canterbury will not be obliged to enter into any correspondence in relation to its decisions.
  4. To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Environment Canterbury, Metro or any entity associated with Environment Canterbury will be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever (including but not limited to direct or consequential loss or damage) as a result of or in connection with the Competition.
  5. Any personal information collected by Environment Canterbury will be collected, used, shared and held in accordance with Environment Canterbury’s privacy policy].
  6. These Terms are governed by New Zealand law and all participants and Winners submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts for any matter or dispute arising in relation to these Terms or the Competition.
