So many of Christchurch’s best spots are just a short walk from a Metro stop. Ride into the city and enjoy local favourites like: Riverside Market • The Terrace • Te Pae • Botanic Gardens • Christchurch Art Gallery • New Regent Street • Tūranga • Margaret Mahy Playground • Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre (opening late 2025)
From playground stops to gallery visits and lunch with friends — the city is made for exploring.

Plan your trip
Getting to the city by bus is easy, whether you ride often or you’re just getting started. In Christchurch, single- and double-digit bus routes (e.g. 3, 27) always run through the central city and service the Interchange, while three-digit routes (e.g. 135) generally bypass it. So, if your bus number is short, chances are it’s coming into the city and through the Interchange. If your nearest service doesn't run through the city, you may find the Orbiter or another connecting service will be a good option. With free transfers within two hours there is no extra cost to connect between services.
You can plan trips using a range of tools that show routes, stops and live bus arrivals in real time. You’ll also get walking directions and route options to help you get across the city smoothly. View real-time bus tools.
If you’re new to Metro, our Getting Started guide covers everything from finding a stop to tagging on, and it’s also available in print at the Bus Interchange and most Christchurch libraries. New to Metro? Start here.
Accessibility and comfort
Travel is for everyone — including people with mobility needs, young families and those who need a little extra time. Metro buses are designed to be easy and comfortable for everyone. All buses have low floors, wheelchair ramps and priority seating, and can kneel to the kerb for easier boarding. Prams and pushchairs are welcome, and service and assistance dogs can travel too.
