Matariki fireworks – catch a bus

New Brighton Pier lit up purpleSpecial buses are being scheduled to provide easy travel to Christchurch City Council's Matariki Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday 10 July 2021 at 7PM. Avoid road closures and parking by catching the bus.

The event:

Enjoy local kai at New Brighton Mall from 5PM, then Kapa Haka, fire and aerial performers from 6.30PM. From 7PM – 7.30PM there will be the fireworks display at the New Brighton Pier.

Getting there:

Metro will be putting on additional buses using normal fares to help people get to the event.

When travelling home, Metro is offering free travel from Oram Ave, New Brighton, from 7.30PM until 8PM.

From The Palms, Marshland Road Route 60 to Oram Avenue, New Brighton

Bus departure times:

  • Every 30min until 5.22PM, normal timetable.
  • Every 10min from 5.45PM until 6.15PM.

Getting home - free fares:

All buses departing Oram Avenue, New Brighton, will be free from 7.30PM until 8.00PM.

This includes:

  • Additional Route 5 buses to Eastgate and the Bus Interchange.
  • Additional Route 60 buses to the Bus Interchange.
  • Special buses to The Palms, Merivale and the University of Canterbury.
  • Normal buses for Routes 5 and 60 will also depart Oram Avenue during this time.
