Detour for Opawa Rd night works (from 19/04/2026 until 25/04/2026)
On Sunday 19th April for 6 nights there will be road works on Opawa Rd that will require the Route 8 service to detour from its usual route.
Buses travelling northbound towards the Airport will follow the normal route to Opawa Rd, take the 3rd exit at the Ensors Rd roundabout, turn left on Brougham St, and continue on Brougham St to resume the normal route.
Buses travelling southbound towards Lyttelton will follow the normal route to Brougham St, continue on Brougham St, turn right on Ensors Rd, and take the 1st exit at the Opawa Rd roundabout to resume the normal route.

Detour for Te Kaha Stadium Events road closures – Route 8 via Ara trips only (from 25/04/2026 until 25/04/2026)
On Saturday 25th April there will be road closures in the city for the Te Kaha stadium events that will require the Route 8 via Ara service to detour from its usual route between the hours of 2:00pm to midnight. Please be aware that delays may occur due to traffic in the area.
Buses travelling northbound towards the Airport via Ara will have no detour required.
Buses travelling southbound towards Lyttelton via Ara will follow the normal route to Tuam St, turn right on Manchester St, turn left on Moorhouse Ave, and turn right on Waltham Rd to resume the normal route.

Detour for Te Kaha Stadium Events road closures – Route 8 via Ara trips only (from 26/04/2026 until 26/04/2026)
On Sunday 26th April there will be road closures in the city for the Te Kaha stadium events that will require the Route 8 via Ara service to detour from its usual route between the hours of 11:00am to 9:30pm. Please be aware that delays may occur due to traffic in the area.
Buses travelling northbound towards the Airport via Ara will have no detour required.
Buses travelling southbound towards Lyttelton via Ara will follow the normal route to Tuam St, turn right on Manchester St, turn left on Moorhouse Ave, and turn right on Waltham Rd to resume the normal route.

On Saturday 25th April there will be road closures on Martindales Rd that will require the Route 8 service to detour from its usual route between the hours of 5:30am to 7:30am
Buses travelling northbound towards the Airport will follow the normal route to Bridle Path Rd, and turn left on Port Hills Rd to resume the normal route.
Buses travelling southbound towards Lyttelton will follow the normal route to Port Hills Rd, go straight over Martindales roundabout, and turn right on Bridle Path Rd to resume the normal route.

On Tuesday 28th April for 2 nights there will be road works on Strowan Rd that will require the Route 8 service to detour from its usual route.
Buses travelling northbound towards the Airport will follow the normal route to Rossall St, turn left on Glandovey Rd, turn right on Idris Rd, and turn left on Wairakei Rd to resume the normal route.
Buses travelling southbound towards Lyttelton will follow the normal route to Wairakei Rd, turn right on Idris Rd, turn left on Glandovey Rd, and turn right on Rossall St to resume the normal route.
