Important information about concessions
All concessions are now available on Motu Move, our new payments and ticketing system. A concession gives eligible customers discounted or free fares when travelling on Metro services.
Metro concessions are:
- Child (5 – 18 years old)
- Youth (19 – 24 years old)
- SuperGold
- Community Services Card
- Total Mobility
Concessions must be linked to your new way to pay via the Motu Move website. This includes age-based fares and SuperGold customers travelling during free hours.
Metrocard and cash payments are currently still accepted, but will be removed from our network from 23 November.
How to link your concession
Follow these easy steps to link your concession to your preferred payment method.
1. Go to motumove.govt.nz and create an account
2. Add a debit/credit card or Motu Move card to your account. If you want to link a concession to your device, you must add the card that's connected to your digital wallet.
3. Follow the steps and link your concession to your debit/credit card or Motu Move card. If you have more than one concession, you can link both to your account to ensure you always get the best fare.
4. After your concession has been successfully added, tag on using the card or device that you plan to use each time you board the bus or ferry.
Important: Your reduced fare only applies to the card or device that you tagged on with first after linking your concession. If you tag on with another card or device, you will be charged a standard adult fare.

Our concessions
Child (5–18 years)
Children aged 5–18 inclusive are eligible for a discounted fare on bus and ferry services across our Greater Christchurch network.

Youth (19–24 years)
If you’re aged 19–24 inclusive, you’re eligible for a discounted fare on bus and ferry services across our Greater Christchurch network. The Youth fare was previously called the Under 25 concession.

SuperGold Cardholders
SuperGold Cardholders travel for free from 9AM weekdays and all weekend.
We are now getting ready to move all customers to Motu Move, our new payment system. You can currently still show your SuperGold Card to the driver when boarding, but you will soon need to link your SuperGold concession to your new way to pay.
How to link my SuperGold concession
If you have a combined SuperGold and Community Services Card concession linked to your preferred way to pay, you’ll be able to get the best fares when you travel during peak time.
Metrocard and cash are still accepted for now, but these will be removed from 23 November.
Changes are coming for SuperGold customers
From 23 November, SuperGold hours will change to align with the national hours. This means travel between 3pm and 6:30pm on weekdays will no longer be free for SuperGold customers.

Community Services Cardholders
Community Services Cardholders can get 50% off the standard fare on all Metro bus and ferry services in Greater Christchurch.
