Metrocard Concession Fares and Discounts

Travel concessions are available with a Metrocard for some groups.

Travel concessions are available with a Metrocard for the following groups. Concessions are not available when paying with cash. Some concessions require pre-registration.

Concession fares are not available when paying with cash. You may be eligible for multiple concessions, but you can only choose one.

Community Services Cardholders

Community Services Cardholders can get 50% off the standard Metrocard fare on all Metro bus and ferry services in Greater Christchurch.

You must add your Community Services Card to your Metrocard to access this fare. If you already have a Metrocard, you can use this online form to do so. If you don’t have a Metrocard, you can get your first card for free. Order it online, or come and see us at the Bus Interchange.

Total Mobility Cardholders

Get access to a discounted fare on all Metro bus and ferry services if you are a Total Mobility Cardholder. Plus, a companion can travel with you for free!

To receive this concession, you must match your Total Mobility Card to your Metrocard. To do this, either call Metroinfo on 03 366 8855, or come and see us at the Metroinfo counter inside the Bus Interchange.

Youth (19-24 years)

(This is the former Under 25 concession).

If you’re aged 19-24 inclusive, you’re eligible for a discounted fare on bus and ferry services across our Greater Christchurch network.

When you apply for your Metrocard, you need to show some identification with your name and date of birth. From then on, simply tap your Metrocard to receive your age-related concession.

If you have a historical Tertiary Card, the Youth Fare will automatically be applied to these cards from 7 July 2025.

Child (5-18 years)

Children aged 5-18 inclusive are eligible for a discounted fare on bus and ferry services across our Greater Christchurch network.

When applying for a Metrocard, we’ll request some identification with the child’s name and date of birth. From then on, they can simply tap their Metrocard to receive the age-related concession.

SuperGold Cardholders

SuperGold Cardholders travel for free from 9am weekdays and all weekend.

Simply show your SuperGold Card to the driver when boarding and you’ll be on your way free of charge!

If you’re travelling before 9am on weekdays, make sure you have your Metrocard to get the best value. If you have a combined SuperGold and Community Services card concession loaded to your Metrocard, you’ll be able to get the best fares.
